7/2/2025 Exploring Barcelona

Our local guide began our walking tour in El Born,
a charming neighborhood, more local and laid-back
than other, more heavily-traveled districts.
There were medieval streets, quaint cafes, boutiques,
and interesting art (very interesting art).
Of course, when we first looked at this wall,
we couldn't understand why everyone was posing for photos.
Once the outcome was clear, we hustled to get in line.

This is the first time I've ever seen a cow posing as a gargoyle.
Meet the infamous Pooper (AKA The Caganer)
who doesn't give a crap who's watching him do his thing.
(Interestingly, the caganer is a typical figurine
found in Catalan nativity scenes, dating back to the 18th century
as a symbol of good luck, joy, and good fortune
in the home and through his defecation, the land
is fertilised the following year.)
