Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, is a colorful city tucked into the Alps, where visitors enjoy sweeping views, charming cobblestone streets, and skiing.
Once again, I was fortunate to view and photograph many of them from my hotel room balcony. Tina, our local guide, was one of the best we ever had. She was a born storyteller who wasn't afraid to tell it like it was, even when it came to her own stories.
And this massive one was the first. Titled "Hearing," by its artist Julia Bornefeld, it's displayed on the façade of the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck and focuses on acoustic stimuli, sensations, emotions, and engaging in active listening.
The massive ear and the other story behind it.

Bernie's keg of dark beer will never be forgotten.
I was so impressed that he was able to hold it in one hand.
Like the locals, we visited a church and then went to the pub
for a terrific meal at Bierstindl (I think).
So many pubs, and so little time,
Choosing from overwhelming beer selections.
I had the best schnitzel ever, and we ate so many fries
we were ready to pop!
St. Anne's Column, a victory column in Innsbruck,
was named in 1703 during the War of the Spanish Succession,
When the last Bavarian troops were driven from the Tyrol
on Saint Anne's Day.One year later,
The column was designed from red Kramsach marble
by Christoforo Benedetti, a Trento sculptor.
One last Giraffe chandelier lit up the Stage 12 Innsbruck lobby
as we departed in taxis to the airport during the wee hours
of the morning. What a fantastic tour!
